Younggwang Park, Bass
Younggwang Park is a bass with an impressive trajectory in both education and performance. Born with a profound passion for music, Younggwang embarked on his formal training at the Seoul Arts High School, where he graduated in 2015. His commitment to excellence in music led him to pursue a Bachelor of Music degree at Seoul National University, from which he graduated in 2022. Recently, He earned a Master’s degree from The Juilliard School. He was a Robert Merrill Voice Scholarship recipient at The Juilliard School.
His talent and dedication have earned him numerous accolades throughout his career. In 2015, he emerged as the winner of the Goyang-si Music Association Competition and secured second place in the T&B Entertainment Competition. His outstanding vocal prowess was further recognized in 2022 when he won the Metropolitan Opera Laffont Competition (Georgia District). In the subsequent year, he achieved third place in the Southeast Region of the Metropolitan Opera Laffont Competition, received an Encouragement Award at the Giulio Gari Vocal Competition, and secured second place at the Opera at Florham International Vocal Competition. 2023 was a particularly remarkable year for Younggwang as he triumphed in both the Metropolitan Opera Laffont Competition (New York District) and the Opera Index Vocal Competition.
Operatic repertoire is diverse and impressive. At The Juilliard School, he portrayed Simone in Gianni Schicchi, Diarte in Erismena, and covered the roles of Mercurio in Atalanta and Joe in Later the Same Evening. He also performed as Pastore in Orfeo at The Santa Fe Opera.
In addition to his operatic roles, Younggwang has showcased his versatility through various solo performances. Notable appearances include performing German Lied and Opera Aria at Seoul National University in 2021, William Bolcom Art Song at The Juilliard School in 2022, and Russian Song at Alice Tully Hall in Lincoln Center in 2023. He also performed scenes from La Bohème with The Juilliard School Orchestra in 2023. In the summer of 2023, he joined The Santa Fe Opera as an Apprentice Artist.
