Opera San José Audition Notice

Maestro Joseph Marcheso and Opera San José announce the following vacancies:

PRINCIPAL OBOE

SECOND FRENCH HORN

All audition rounds for PRINCIPAL OBOE will take place on Monday, April 28, 2025.

All audition rounds for SECOND FRENCH HORN will take place on Tuesday, April 29, 2025.

Auditions will take place at the California Theatre in San Jose, California.

The position begins in July 2025.

Candidates will be invited to participate based on their submitted materials. Applications received after the deadline may not be considered. Deposit check must be postmarked by the deadline.

Opera San José will hold in-person auditions for Chorus, Comprimario, and Cover roles for the 2025/2026 season on May 6 (10AM–5PM) and May 7 (2–9PM), 2025 in San Jose. Local Bay Area and out-of-town singers are welcome to audition, though OSJ intends to hire mostly local talent for these positions.

OSJ’s upcoming season will be announced publicly on Tuesday, April 15, at which time the application window will open to apply for an audition slot. Specific information on available cover and comprimario roles will also be shared at that time. All audition requests will be due no later than Friday, April 25 at 5PM Pacific.

Audition repertoire requirements will consist of 3–4 pieces of your choice representing at least two different languages. A pianist will be provided.
