Peter Kozma
returns during the 2009 - 2010 season to direct The Marriage of
Figaro. Last season, Mr. Kozma made
his Opera San José debut as stage director for Eugene Onegin.
Currently the Director of Opera and Musical Theater at The Ohio State
University in Columbus, Mr. Kozma's directorial credits include
Rossini's Il Signor Bruschino and the American premier of
Orazi e Curiazi by S. Mercadante for Minnesota Opera, L’Orfeo for
Budapest Chamber Opera, as well as L’elisir d’amore, La
Calisto and The Magic Flute for OSU Opera.
As Resident Artist Stage
Director at Minnesota Opera, he assisted in productions including Tosca,
Don Giovanni
and Joseph Merrick, The Elephant Man. Mr. Kozma also worked with
Wolf Trap Opera and Chicago Opera Theater as assistant director, and
served as a staff member at Des Moines Metro Opera as assistant director
and stage director for the Apprentice Artist Program.
While completing his
degree in vocal performance at the Franz Liszt Academy of Music in
Budapest, he founded the Ars Classica Chamber Opera, where he produced
and directed numerous productions including The Magic Flute, The
Elixir of Love, The Marriage of Figaro and Don Giovanni. Mr.
Kozma also worked at the Hungarian State Opera and the Miskolc Summer
Festival (Hungary) as assistant director for productions including La
Cenerentola, Bank ban, Das Rheingold, Madama Butterfly,
Carmen, La traviata and Don Giovanni.
Mr.
Kozma received his Master of Music degree in opera stage directing from
the University of Texas at Austin, where he directed The Telephone,
L'incoronazione di Poppea and La tragédie de Carmen
for the UT Butler Opera Center. |
